Another new electric van is entering the market, and it's called the Nissan Townstar. "New" is a bit of a misnomer, though, as the EV is replacing Nissan's old e-NV200 in the automaker's European commercial vehicles lineup. We're not sure if the new Townstar will ever make the trek to this side of the globe, but there were rumblings of the e-NV200 doing so previously.
In the chance that it does come stateside, we'll give you an overview of what this van can do. Nissan is calling it "all-new" compared to the e-NV200, and it's definitely using plenty of new parts. The battery is now a 44 kWh pack (it was a 40 kWh pack previously), and power is up to 122 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. Range with this bigger battery is approximated at 177 miles, but expect a considerably lower number if the Townstar is ever given an EPA-rated range. Charging speed maxes out with an optional 22 kW charge speed capability — Nissan says it'll go from 0-80% in 42 minutes in optimal conditions.
As Toyota nears two decades of competition in the Camping World Truck Series, they unveiled their new NASCAR race truck for 2022 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. With the Tundra TRD Pro, they hope to add another title to the eight drivers’ and 11 manufacturers’ championships they've won so far.
Toyota has unveiled the off-roader that it will field at next year's Dakar Rally kicking off on January 2.
LAS VEGAS — Toyota will use its Tundra TRD Pro in NASCAR's Trucks Series next season as part of an overhaul to the vehicles used in the third-tier series.
The Tundra TRD Pro was unveiled before Friday night's race at Las Vegas Speedway. It will make its competition debut in next season's opener at Daytona International Speedway in February.
Today, JDM culture is a religion in the car scene, and while names like Nissan, Mazda, Honda, and Toyota took center stage to popularize their legacy, there have been a few gems that never got the chance to shine.

This week in racing game news:
While the actual first-generation Camry was a Japan-only Celica variant, the first time the Camry appeared in American Toyota showrooms was when the second-gen car showed up in early 1983 (and I've managed to find one of the very first US-market Camrys in a Denver junkyard). While the Camry has been available only in four-door sedan form since the 1997 model year (when the short-lived Camry coupe and the much more successful Camry station wagon were discontinued), the 1983-1986 Camry could be purchased here in both sedan and liftback configurations. Most American buyers opted for the sedan, and I have been able to find quite a few of those homely-but-reliable cars during my junkyard travels. The Camry liftbacks have been more elusive, though I have found one with well over 300,000 miles on the odometer. Today's Junkyard Gem isn't quite as well-traveled, but it boasts plenty of luxurious (by the standards of the middle 1980s) options.
Nissan announced today that it will show off a new line of NISMO Off Road branded parts for the 2022 Frontier, among others. The four new parts are a new set of lights, a bed rack, a new rooftop tent, and a performance exhaust.
In this episode of the Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by News Editor Joel Stocksdale. This week they talk about cars they've been driving including the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLA 35, Audi SQ7 and the long-term Hyundai Palisade. They also discuss this year's Detroit Auto Show, its outdoor format, and its two big reveals, the 2022 Toyota Tundra and Ford Expedition. They cap things off by helping someone spend their money on a new car.

The Daihatsu Motor Company, best-known for its popular kei cars and vans in Japan, made a short-lived attempt to sell highway vehicles in the United States. From the 1988 through 1992 model years, the Charade subcompact and Rocky mini-SUV could be purchased here, after which the brand packed up and went home. As you might imagine, the Charade is very rare and the Rocky nearly nonexistent today, but my junkyard searching never ceases and I find examples here and there. Here's a 1990 Rocky, found in a self-service yard near Denver, Colorado.
Nissan is debuting a number of new Nismo parts at the 2021 Overland Expo West this year, and they're all made for and being featured on the 2022 Nissan Frontier. You can see the Frontier above outfitted with all of the parts. Plus, it appears as though Nissan fitted this particular Frontier with even more parts than listed that it says were announced last year.
One big useful item you'll see is the Nismo Off Road Overland Bed Rack. Nissan designed it to easily attach to the Utili-Track bed system on the Frontier's bed. It's constructed of powder-coated steel and available in both high and low versions (Nissan says high is pictured). And while it does fit the 2022 Frontier, Nissan says it'll also fit 2005-2021 Frontiers, too.
The Toyota Land Cruiser might be dead in the U.S. after 2021, but the next-generation 300-series is a hot commodity in the rest of the world, with a confluence of demand and microchip shortages swelling the waiting list to four years in some regions. Of course, with any car this popular, it was only a matter of time before a tuning house came out with an over-the-top styling package.
In this case that tuner is Japan's Liberty Walk, who has been responsible for slamming and putting wide body kits on everything from Nissan Skylines to Ferraris, Mustangs to Lamborghinis. Their signature look is so pervasive in the aftermarket world that Dodge even put one of their LB Performance stickers on a Dodge Demon mule when they were testing the car.
With the 2013 Subaru BRZ and its cousin, the Toyota GT86, most of us always had one issue: a lack of power to match its potential. The new Subaru BRZ returns in 2022 to scratch that itch, and its certainly doesn’t disappoint. Aside from the engine, the interior and exterior are a level up as well.
