A Japanese government survey showed that 200 people who evacuated to Japan following Russia's invasion of Ukraine are either attending or trying to attend schools, kindergartens and universities across the country.

The education ministry surveyed educational boards and other relevant institutions in Japan.

Japan Post to return items disrupted by Russian invasion

Japan Post says it must return items on their way to Russia and several other countries as the conflict in Ukraine is disrupting transportation networks.

Japan Post says this applies to international sea mail accepted in Japan from November to around January. Aside from Russia, the other countries affected are Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Belarus.

In Major League Baseball, Japanese two-way star Ohtani Shohei of the Los Angeles Angels has homered for the second consecutive game.

Facing the Oakland Athletics on Sunday, Ohtani was batting third as the designated hitter. He ripped a two-run homer into the center field stands in the first inning.

Japan to approve 2.7 tril. yen supplementary budget plan

The Japanese government plans to draft a supplementary budget worth 2.7 trillion yen, or about 21 billion dollars. It will include funding for measures to help cope with rising prices.

The draft budget for the current fiscal year includes 1.17 trillion yen or around 9.1 billion dollars for subsidies to oil wholesalers. They will go out from June to deal with soaring crude oil prices. One and a half trillion yen or about 11.7 billion dollars will be for adding reserve funds.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government reported 2,377 new cases of the coronavirus in the capital on Monday.

The daily tally was down more than 600 from a week ago, and marked a week-on-week decline for three days in a row.

First Bullfighting Event Of The Year Held In Northeastern Japan

First bullfighting event of the year held in northeastern Japan

A total of 16 young bulls have participated in a bullfighting event in the northeastern Japanese city of Kuji, Iwate Prefecture. Yamagata Town, which is located in the city, is the only place in the Tohoku region that hosts bullfights.

The traditional event on the Hiraniwa Highland is held four times a year between May and October. The first bullfight of 2022 took place on Sunday.

Japanese Culture On Display At Nyc Parade

Japanese culture on display at NYC parade

About 90 Japanese and Japanese American organizations took part in a Japan Day parade in New York City on Saturday.

The annual celebration of Japanese culture was first held in Manhattan in 2007. The parade marked the 150th anniversary of the visit of the Japanese mission led by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Iwakura Tomomi.
