Japan To Send Second Team Of Experts To Mauritius
A second group of experts from Japan is set to leave for Mauritius on Wednesday to help reduce the environmental impact of an oil spill from a Japanese-owned bulk carrier.
The team of seven includes experts from the National Institute for Environmental Studies and the Environment Ministry. They are being dispatched at the request of the Mauritian government to help assess the impact on the local eco-system of the oil leakage from the ship.
The ship chartered by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines ran aground off the Indian Ocean island nation on July 25.
The Japanese government dispatched its first team of six members on August 10, including Japan Coast Guard officials.
The government is showing its continued support for Mauritius to help prevent marine pollution and to protect its environment.
