Government officials are arranging for Suga to meet Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Indonesian President Joko Widodo during his four-day trip, starting on Sunday.

Suga revealed the plan at an executive meeting of Japan's main governing Liberal Democratic Party on Tuesday.

He described the Association of Southeast Asian Nations as the key to a free and open Indo-Pacific region. He said he aims to show both domestically and abroad that Japan will contribute to peace and prosperity in the region.
