Asahikawa Asks For Sdf Nurses To Help With Covid

Asahikawa asks for SDF nurses to help with COVID

The northern Japanese city of Asahikawa has requested Hokkaido's prefectural government to ask the Self-Defense Forces to send nurses to deal with a series of coronavirus cluster infections.

City officials on Monday asked the Hokkaido government to recognize the situation as a disaster and convey the request for nurses to the SDF.

The request comes after a number of cluster infections occurred at medical institutions and welfare facilities.

The city says it is difficult to secure enough nurses on its own.

City officials say they hope around 10 nurses will be sent from the SDF.

Mayor Nishikawa Masahito said he wants residents to understand that the city's medical healthcare system is in a critical situation. He urged people to take thorough measures to prevent infections.
