Officials at Japan's health ministry say 39 more people have been found infected with the new coronavirus on the cruise ship Diamond Princess at the port of Yokohama.
This brings the total number of passengers and crew infected on the vessel to 174.
Separately, a quarantine official who was conducting inspections aboard the cruise ship has also been confirmed to be infected with the virus.
Health minister Katsunobu Kato says the patients in hospital include four people in serious condition who are on respirators or being treated in intensive care units.
Three of them are reportedly Japanese nationals.
