Antiviral Measures Urged At Tokyo Night Clubs

Antiviral measures urged at Tokyo night clubs

Officials in Tokyo have called for precautionary measures against the coronavirus at night clubs in the Shinjuku Kabukicho area, one of the largest entertainment districts in Japan.

The recent surge in virus infections in the capital is partly blamed on nightlife drinking locations, such as host or hostess bars.

About 80 people, including Shinjuku Ward and Tokyo Metropolitan Government officials, gathered on Monday evening to patrol the Kabukicho area.

The head of the ward, Yoshizumi Kenichi, told the participants that the future of the entertainment district is at stake.

He asked them to deliver a strong message calling on night clubs to cooperate in containing infections.

Divided into groups, the officials visited clubs and urged their owners and employees to let fresh air in at least once every 30 minutes, as well as to disinfect the sofas and chairs after each customer leaves.

The patrol is also planned for Tuesday to cover all of some 300 host and hostess clubs in the district.
