Govt. Postpones Crown Prince's Ceremonies

Govt. postpones Crown Prince's ceremonies

Japan has postponed ceremonies to proclaim Crown Prince Akishino as heir to the throne, due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The government made the decision on Tuesday. It follows the declaration of a state of emergency in Tokyo and several other prefectures.

A pair of Ceremonies for Proclamation of Crown Prince were scheduled for April 19 at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. The Japanese government had decided to reduce the number of guests attending one of the ceremonies, the proclamation ceremony. Related banquets were canceled earlier.

The government now plans to study a new schedule by monitoring the course of the outbreak.
