Govt. to give guidelines on tougher closure action

Japan's minister in charge of anti-coronavirus measures says the government plans to announce as early as Thursday guidelines for prefectural governors to take tougher measures against businesses that defy the government's request to stay closed.

Economic Revitalization Minister Nishimura Yasutoshi spoke to reporters on Wednesday after he met with Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko.

Koike reportedly told Nishimura during the meeting that she wants to take stronger action against defiant business operators, including disclosing their names.

Nishimura said after the talks he told Koike that the government is discussing enabling such action, and plans to provide guidelines as early as Thursday.
