Ipc To Open Paralympic Museum In Tokyo

IPC to open Paralympic museum in Tokyo

The International Paralympic Committee will open its first museum on athletes and the history of the Paralympic movement.

The museum will be located at the COREDO Muromachi Terrace commercial complex in Tokyo's Nihonbashi district.

The museum will chronicle how the Paralympic movement developed from a competition held at a British hospital in 1948 for the rehabilitation of injured servicemen and -women.

The museum will display medals, torches, and posters from past Paralympics. It will also feature legendary athletes who achieved great records.

The museum will be open for about a month from August 25, when the Tokyo Paralympics will begin. Admission will be free.

IPC President Andrew Parsons expressed hope that the museum will help visitors to understand how the Paralympic movement has evolved in a relatively short span of time.
