Japan Firm Funds Mauritius Oil Spill Recovery

Japan firm funds Mauritius oil spill recovery

Japan's Mitsui O.S.K. Lines has announced a support package worth more than 9 million dollars in the wake of a major oil spill off Mauritius.

A bulk carrier chartered by the company ran aground off the island nation in July.

The shipping firm plans to allocate about 7.5 million dollars of its 9.4 million dollar total commitment to an environmental fund.

The fund will support programs to nurture coral reefs, plant mangroves, and protect seabirds.

The company is setting up a representative office in Mauritius for long-term cooperation with local authorities.
