Japan govt. to work closely with US, S.Korea

The Japanese government will work closely with the United States and South Korea to analyze North Korea's reasons for demolishing an inter-Korean liaison office.

North Korea blew up the liaison office in the North's border city of Kaesong on Tuesday. The country had slammed Seoul for allowing North Korean defectors to send anti-Pyongyang leaflets across the border.

Japanese government officials consider it unlikely that the incident will lead to major military clashes between the two Koreas, as Pyongyang had warned in advance that it would demolish the office.

Some officials have noted that it was Kim Yo Jong, the sister of the North Korean leader, who had given the warning. They say the move appears aimed at solidifying her position in the country.

The Japanese government plans to work with foreign and defense policy officials of South Korea and the US in analyzing Pyongyang's intentions.

It also plans to do its utmost to stay vigilant and monitor the situation as regional tensions may rise if the North makes further provocations.
