Migrating Swans Arrive At Lake Hyoko

Migrating swans arrive at Lake Hyoko

A flock of swans from Siberia has arrived at a lake in the central Japanese city of Agano to spend the winter.

City officials say nine swans were spotted at Lake Hyoko on Wednesday. The first reported sighting of wintering swans came one day later than last year.

Every autumn, flocks of swans travel 4,000 kilometers from Siberia to the lake.

The swans were seen swimming or resting at the waterside.

Visitors took photos and fed the birds.

A man in his 70s from the city of Niigata said he was happy to see the swans after their long journey.

Local officials say a total of about 5,000 swans are expected to arrive through November.
