Nissan's Operating Profit Plunges, Outlook Cut

Nissan's operating profit plunges, outlook cut

Nissan Motor's operating profit shrank sharply during the nine months to December, mainly due to sluggish sales in the US and Europe.

Company officials say the figure was down 82.7 percent to 54.3 billion yen, or nearly 500 million dollars.

The officials have also cut their operating-profit forecast for fiscal 2019, which ends in March. The year-on-year number is down 73 percent to 85 billion yen.

President and CEO Makoto Uchida says the coronavirus outbreak has affected the automaker's supply chain, forcing it to adjust output from two of its plants in Japan.
