Organizers of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games have revealed the motto for the games: "United by Emotion."
Each Olympic event has featured a motto since the 1988 Summer Games in Seoul.
The organizing committee revealed the motto on Monday, ahead of the start of the Olympic torch relay next month.
Director General Toshiro Muto explained that unity in diversity is one of the principles of the Tokyo Games.
He said the world is becoming increasingly divided on various fronts, including the economy, culture, and politics.
He expressed hope that people of various backgrounds can connect with each other through the emotions experienced at the Summer Games.
The motto will be displayed at competition sites and in the streets of hosting cities and municipalities.
