Second plane to return to Japan Thur. morning

A second plane to evacuate Japanese nationals from Wuhan, the epicenter of the new coronavirus outbreak, is expected to arrive at Tokyo's Haneda Airport on Thursday morning.

The government-chartered plane left for the Chinese city on Wednesday night. It was carrying eight medical staff and government officials, as well as relief supplies such as masks and disinfectants.

It is expected to return home on Thursday morning after picking up 210 people in Wuhan.

This follows the first flight that brought 206 people back home on Wednesday morning. Twelve of the evacuees have developed fever or other symptoms.

Health ministry officials say medical staff will examine passengers on board for symptoms such as fevers and coughs.

They add all of the passengers will be sent to medical institutions to undergo tests for the virus.
