Study: China promotes military-civil fusion

Japan's National Institute for Defense Studies says the Chinese military is rapidly promoting development of core technologies in cooperation with the private sector, to boost its capabilities in cyberspace and outer space.

The institute on Friday released its annual report on China's military development, focusing on the country's military-civil fusion strategy.

The report says that China recognizes the key to getting the upper hand against the US military is to advance cooperation between the military and the private sector.

The report points out that China has simplified regulations to make it easier for businesses to enter the security sector.

It also says the Chinese Communist Party has set up an organization to ensure its military-civil fusion strategy is smoothly carried out.

The report's analysis shows China is promoting rapid domestic development in fields ranked as strategically important, including robots and next-generation information technology.

The report goes on to say that concerns are spreading in Europe and the United States over China's move to acquire overseas technologies and human resources through active investments and exchanges with foreign countries.

It also notes that China has flown small unmanned aircraft near Japan, raising new security issues.
