Typhoon Chan - Hom Approaching Japan

Typhoon Chan-hom approaching Japan

Japanese weather officials say a typhoon now situated over the Pacific just south of Japan will likely approach the country's western and eastern regions.

Meteorological Agency officials say that at noon on Friday, Typhoon Chan-hom was at sea some 250 kilometers south-southeast of Kochi Prefecture.

They estimate the storm is moving northeast slowly, packing maximum winds of 126 kilometers per hour near its center.

The officials expect Chan-hom will approach western Japan on Saturday before nearing eastern Japan later in the day and into Sunday.

The officials are calling on people to stay vigilant for strong winds and high waves as well as mudslides, floods in low-lying areas, and swollen rivers.
