Foreign visitors to Japan hit record for June

The number of foreign visitors to Japan in June marked a record high for the month. Tourism officials point to more travelers from mainland China mainly due to the easing of visa requirements.

The Japan National Tourism Organization estimates that 2.88 million foreigners visited Japan last month. That's up 6.5 percent from a year earlier.

Avengers: Endgame is the biggest movie of the year. That was to be expected given the sheer hype surrounding the iteration after Avengers: Infinity War. Fans of the franchise have also been waiting for Square Enix’s Avengers game which was first confirmed by Marvel and the developer over two years ago. They will be delighted to find out that Square Enix will finally be unveiling its Avengers game on June 10th as part of its E3 press event.

It has been confirmed that Square Enix and Marvel will be unveiling the new Avengers game at the former’s E3 press event on June 10th. It will begin at 9 PM Eastern. Not much has been confirmed about the title at this point in time but it’s known that Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal have been part of the development process.

Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is considering a visit to Iran, apparently to ease tensions between the country and the United States. Such a visit would be the first by a Japanese prime minister since 1978.

Informed sources say Abe is thinking of making the visit in mid-June at the earliest, to meet Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. Abe is expected to make a final decision after meeting US President Donald Trump in Tokyo on Monday.

Nintendo has confirmed its plans for the E3 convention. It’s going to be the world’s biggest gaming convention and Nintendo will have something to share as well during its E3 Direct. The company has scheduled its press event for June 11th.

The Nintendo Direct presentation for June 11th will be streamed at 12PM ET/9AM PT. Nintendo has said that the focus will entirely be on software which basically reiterates its earlier confirmation that no new Switch console will be unveiled at E3 2019.

Japanese Emperor Naruhito is to make a two-day visit to Aichi Prefecture, central Japan, in June, to attend an annual tree-planting ceremony.

According to the rumors, Nintendo could be working on a cheaper version of the Nintendo Switch in the fall of 2019. These rumors have since been “confirmed” by a report from Bloomberg who claims that this cheaper version of the Switch could actually be launched by the end of June 2019.

Coincidentally enough, E3 2019 is taking place in June, so we wouldn’t be surprised if Nintendo were to make some kind of announcement at their own presentation where the console would then launch a couple of weeks later. As to the differences between the models, last we heard, the cheaper Switch will focus on portability.

On February 13, idol group Juice=Juice held a release event for their triple A-side single "Bitansan / Potsuri to / Good bye&Good luck!" in Tokyo. 

As reported earlier, leader Miyazaki Yuka will be graduating from the group as well as Hello! Project after their spring tour. During one of the MC segments, it was announced that she will be graduating after their Budokan live on June 17. "Budokan is a really big place, and it's also an unforgettable place for us. So I am very happy that this place will be my last," she commented.

From time to time companies make questionable decisions. In Nintendo's case, the company had initially decided to discontinue making the NES Classic console which was doing very well. This confused many and later the company sort of backtracked when they announced that they would be bringing it back.

It seems like that proved to be a great idea because according to a report from the NPD Group, it looks like the NES Classic continues being a huge hit where apparently it has managed to outsell current-gen consoles like Sony's PS4 and Microsoft's Xbox One for the month of June. What's notable is that this is the first time a Nintendo console has led in monthly unit sales since  the NPD began tracking the figures back in 1995.
