Polestar To Showcase New Android - Powered Infotainment Features On February 25

Polestar is one of the most prolific producers of teasers and their latest one deals with the brand's in-car Human Design Interface developed with Google.

Volvo’s performance division says it will continue the cooperation with Google that started with the Polestar 2, the first vehicle on the market powered by Android with built-in Google Assistant, Google Maps and the Google Play Store.

The two companies have more in store for the future as Polestar seeks to build "a truly personalized and contextualized experience" in its vehicles using Android as a platform. According to the Volvo-owned company, the complete vehicle environment will automatically adjust to the user’s personal preferences and last-used applications.

Based on the detected driver profile enabled by the Polestar Digital Key, tailored information will be displayed when the driver approaches. Should the driver consent to it, the system could even proactively offer personalized planning according to driver habits or preferences, or conditions.

A key role in that will be played by the Google Assistant which will act as a co-pilot, using advanced speech technology to expand to more languages, understand local accents and provide more personalized experiences.

Entertainment will stand to gain too as it will become more relevant, not only for drivers. For example, video streaming from popular apps and services will be made available for occupants when the vehicle is parked and during charging.

Polestar says it is committed to avoiding information overload, which is why the company will implement advanced eye-tracking and proximity sensors "to deliver information in a controlled manner."

More specifically, the screens will alter their brightness and content based on conditions and the driver’s reactions. When users glance in their direction, dimmed displays will increase intensity, while the approach of a user’s hand will adapt the presented controls. The HMI will also warn users if they are looking too much at the screen rather than the road ahead.

Another area Polestar will continue to partner with Google is on advanced safety by integrating Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) with Google Maps for safer maneuvers on the road. Polestar will reveal its vision on the HMI of the future on February 25.
